Bike Thailand Post Trip - Angkor Wat      Cambodia / July 1-5, 2009

Angkor Wat is a World Heritage site and truly one of the most breathtaking marvels in the world.  Sitting 4 miles from the modern town of Siem Reap, Cambodia, Angkor Wat was built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city.  It is the only temple that remains a significant religious center – first Hindu dedicated to Vishnu and now Buddhist – since its foundation.  It is the epitome of high classical Khmer architecture and the symbol of Cambodia.  You will see all of Angkor leisurely riding around it and at its most beautiful -  sunrise and sunset.

You will fly in the morning from Phuket to Siem Reap (via Bangkok), arriving in time to see the templecomplex at sunset.  Bring your cameras as the vision of the sun setting over Angkor is a photo op that is difficult to top.  Angkor Wat sits as the most famous temple within nearly 100 square kilometers of temples.  We will ride through small villages along back roads to reach the hidden temple of Beng Melea.  There will be opportunity to visit other temples including Bantey Srei.

Your fourth and final day will begin with a drive to Tonie Sap Lake, Khmer for Great Lake.  The Tonie Sap is Southeast Asia’s largest lake.   It serves as a buffer to the monsoon swollen Mekong River and is the only river in the world which during monsoon season runs in reverse.  You will enjoy a boat ride on the “Great Lake” to see the floating communities that call it home.

You will be flying back to Bangkok for an overnight to be ready to fly home or continue elsewhere on your journey the next day.
