Lake Tahoe Ski Sampler / March 6 - 13, 2011

Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America and has long been celebrated for its clarity and the outstanding beauty of the surrounding mountain, which are home to more than a dozen ski resorts and ski areas.

This year's adventure will find us sampling three of those resorts: Heavenly, Alpine, Kirkwood and the world-famous Squaw Valley.

Heavenly is considered Tahoe's premier ski resort. Spanning the California Nevada borders, Heavenly is the largest bi-state ski resort in the USA. Few resorts match Heavenly's superior scenic beauty and vast network of lifts, trails and terrain. Bright sunny days, over 360" of snowfall annually, unparalleled natural beauty and 4,800 acres of varied terrain - now that's heaven on earth.

Just a short 45 minute drive south but worlds away from the glitz of Lake Tahoe is the local's favorite, Kirkwood Mountain Resort. One of the largest of the area resorts, Kirkwood sits in a natural basin with a base elevation of 7,800 - the highest resort in the area. Because of this altitude, Kirkwood also receives the highest annual average snowfall - generally above 500"! You're sure to enjoy this special " secret" place.

Described by Skiing Magazine as "A mountain with a distinctly split personality: a mild side and a wild side", Alpine Meadows will offer a day of skiing to suit everyone's taste and abilities. Ranked as one of the top winter resorts in the USA, Alpine Meadows has long been known for its diverse terrain and deep powder. During the 2010 filming of Warren Miller's new film Dynasty, 13' of new snow fell to the delight of all the skiers featured in the film. This movie captures breathtaking footage of some of the best skiers in the world in some of the most amazing mountain locations - Alpine Meadows is one of those amazing locations.

The symbolic Tower of Nations and the Olympic flame from the 1960 games greet visitors as they arrive at Squaw Valley. Built in 1949 and reminiscent of a European ski village, Squaw Valley remains one of the most favorite ski destinations for visitors from around the globe. With over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain and one of the most advanced lift systems in the USA, Squaw Valley has positioned itself on the A-list of " big mountains" in North America.

Our deluxe accommodations will be at the Embassy Suites in South Lake Tahoe. Located at the base of Heavenly's new gondola, the Embassy Suites with its oversized rooms, cooked-to-order breakfasts and nightly manager's receptions is sure to enhance your week in paradise.

Ski Cortina/Explore Venice / March 12 - 22, 2011

Declared a World Heritage Site in 2009, the Dolomites, named after a French mineralogist, are considered the most dramatic mountain range in all of Europe. The " Pale Mountains", as they were previously called, magically change color throughout the day depending on the intensity of the light. For a few minutes before sunrise and after sunset you may even be able to witness the " Alpen Glow" when the mountains turn purple in color for a short time.

Known as the "Queen of the Dolomites" Cortina d'ampezzo is a world renowned ski resort nestled in the heart of these spectacular mountains.

Located in the eastern half of the Italian Alps, Cortina has become one of the most famous alpine destinations in the world after hosting the 1956 Winter Olympics. With 120 km of trails and 52 lifts, the skiing possibilities are endless.

Owned and operated by the Angeli family since 1892, the Parc Victoria Hotel has played host to Kings, royalty and Olympic competitors throughout the decades. In fact, several of the family members have been Olympic competitors themselves. Being centrally located, the Parc Victoria is an ideal base for our week in Cortina. You will feel right at home with their rich tradition of hospitality centered around skiing and outdoor sports.

Guided ski days and the Super Dolomite Ski Pass will give you the flexibility to explore this incredible resort to your heart's content. After an exhilarating week on the slopes, our motor coach will take you back to the Marco Polo Airport in Venice where you will be met by our private guide for the beginning of an exciting 3 days exploring " the floating city". Our guide will escort the group via private water taxi to our hotel, the Sant'Elena. This luxury 4-star boutique hotel will provide a comfortable and tranquil respite from the whirl of activity Venice is famous for.

Dedicated in 1987 as a World Heritage Site, Venice is one of the most visited destinations in the world and has long been known as a center for commerce, arts and culture. After a boat tour of the city with our guide to give you an overview, you will be able to set your own pace. The next 2 days will give you the freedom to do and see as much of this fascinating city as you wish.

A group Farewell Dinner will be a celebration of this fantastic Italian adventure before we say arrivederci.

No passports needed!

This adventure begins in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With hundreds of direct, affordable flights from the USA , the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport serves as a hub for many Caribbean destinations.

The first night of the New Year will be spent at the Hotel Milano, described as "a little jewel in the heart of Old San Juan". After breakfast the next morning and a tour of Old San Juan, a private motor coach will transport the group to the Fajardo Ferry for the 19 miles boat ride to Isla de Culebra where you will be met by your hosts, Captains Rick and Karen Miles, who will welcome you aboard the Wanderbird yacht for the start of our sailing adventure.

Great Smoky Mountains Easy Adventure / May 3 - 10, 2011

Breathtaking beauty, lush forests, plunging waterfalls and 520,976 acres to explore - a hiker's paradise for sure. The Cherokee called these mountains shaconage, meaning "blue, like smoke". The bluish mist, which clings to the mountainsides and fills the valleys, gives the Great Smoky Mountains National Park its name and remains one of its most distinctive features. Among the oldest mountains in the world, the park's abundance and variety of plant and animal life have earned a designation as an International Biosphere Reserve from the United Nations.

Your Trip Host will greet the group at the McGhee-Tyson Airport in Knoxville, TN with our private passenger van. The group will then head to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a blissful week of exploring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The week will include hikes to different areas of the park; with over 800 miles of maintained trails, there will be plenty of options to explore. You are sure to enjoy spending some time at the Tuckaleechee Caverns which are estimated to be 20-30 million years old and considered the "greatest site under the Smokies". With a year-round constant temperature of 58°F, air from the caverns is piped up to help cool the above ground visitor's center in the warmer months.

May is the perfect month to visit the Great Smoky Mountains and what better way to enhance this time of year than a guided Spring Wildflower Walk with naturalists from A Walk in the Woods. This is an easy 3 hour walk that incorporates a "stroll back in time" with a magnificent display of spring wildflowers and the insights and narration of one of the foremost nature guides in the area.

Cades Cove was once a small mountain community settled by the original pioneer families to this area and has become the largest open-air museum in the entire Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The original home sites, farms, churches and businesses have been preserved to look much as they did in the 1800's and will give you a true sense of life here in an earlier era. Other highlights of the week include a visit to the 1.4 million gallon Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, a Mountain Arts & Crafts Tour, and a Dinner & Show at Dolly Parton's world famous Dixie Stampede. You will also have an opportunity to fly like a bird on a guided journey through the trees on a zip- line - a thrilling experience not to be missed!

Following a delightful week of biking, relaxing & indulging in the beautifully prepared meals aboard our floating hotel, the group will say au revoir to the crew of the Le Phénicien in Aigues-Mortes. This splendid medieval walled city has changed little in appearance since the Middle Ages; in fact, the only industry of note is the extraction of salt from sea water which has been practiced on the same site for 2,000 years! A night at a luxury hotel in this intriguing little town will give you the time to peruse its unique shops and cafes or stroll the 1.5 km circular walk on the city's wall before our farewell night in this captivating land.
